EDITOR’S NOTE: As Christians, faith should be a daily mindset and action we take. To even believe in God requires faith. Miriam took God’s word to heart about His provision and exercised her faith. The most important part of her testimony is not that she received what she asked for, but that from the beginning, she told God that this home would be for His glory and honor.
God has always blessed our family. We serve a faithful God and this is one of many testimonies where God has shown us his favor.
The Bible says that we cannot please God without faith (Heb. 11:6). So, in July 2010, I put that verse into practice with all of my heart.
At that time, we were living in a 3 bedroom, 2 bath home. We were comfortable until one of my children started getting involved as a leader of the youth group in our church. We started with 3 youth, but the group started growing and after a couple of months we were having 20 young kids for Bible study and a get together every Friday.
That was when I told God, if it pleases you Lord, let me get a bigger house with a pool and play room where the youth can meet comfortably. Let it be for Your honor and glory.
When I ran the idea by my husband, he was not at all convinced. He said that we had just finished remodeling the house (it took us 6 years) and that every Friday we were having between 20-30 high schoolers but maybe someone else at church could be willing to open their house for the weekly meeting. His second reason for not getting a new house was that we did not have any money to get the new house: no down-payment, we were living from paycheck to paycheck, and for a new home we would need at least 10% down. In my heart I knew God was in control and that he was going to provided a down-payment.
We tried asking other church members if they could open up their homes. No other family from church could accommodate between 25-30 kids per week, and for me that was a sign to go ahead and look for the bigger house that was going to be for the service of the Lord.
It took us a year until finally we found a house like the one that we were looking for, because my husband’s condition to move was that he did not want to have to paint even one wall.
During that year God opened doors, our loan officer told me that we could get the new house with only 3% down and on July 2011, we moved from a 3 bed, 2 bath home to a 6 bedrooms, 4 bath home with a pool and a backyard where 50 people can get together. God opened up our home to much more than just youth Bible studies. We have had Thanksgiving dinners with the youth, a wedding and baby showers for church members, monthly women’s gatherings, and so much more. When someone compliments me on my home, I tell them that this is God’s house and I am just a tenant. God has blessed us beyond measure.
God is faithful, if you have faith. So do not let anyone or anything make you doubt. God will open doors. All things are possible with him because I am the daughter of the King, the owner of the whole universe.
Our home!
