It’s incredible how fast 2015 passed us by! Being that it’s the first month of the new year, you probably have resolutions and goals already set for your life in 2016. I don’t blame you, I’ve got some too. Like graduate from college this May, (finally!!!!) change my last name to my married one, and really take off with my photography business. Yet, one thing that God has been showing me lately is that while we may plan our future, He is ultimately the one who directs our steps in this life. Proverbs 16:9 says,
The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.
God has a plan for your life. It may not be how you envisioned your life to go, but trust me, it’s better to let God plan out your life than for us to get in the way and try to make things go how we want them to. That never works out too well. Not only does God direct our steps each day, He has also promised that He would make us new from the moment we begin to follow Jesus ( 2 Cor. 5:17) and continues to renew us each day through the Holy Spirit!
In Isaiah 43:18-19, God said,
Forget the former things;
do not dwell on the past.
See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness
and streams in the wasteland.
Notice that He said He is DOING a new thing. It’s not that He’s “done” a new thing, but He is presently doing it. I just wanted to encourage you today that God is continuing His good work in you. You might not even have a clue as to what this new year will bring and that’s completely okay. God will reveal to you what it is He wants you to do. Our lives are not our own, they are His and we are to bring glory to His name. God is doing a new thing in your life and He will make a way in the wilderness and provide in the wasteland.
How amazing it is to know that God has a purpose for our lives! It’s a new year and God has given us the opportunity to see how His plans will play out within us. If you thought your life has no purpose and the future is bleak, that’s not true. God has given you a purpose and can make you new! He can restore you and welcome you into His kingdom. The future is brighter with Jesus and like He said in Isaiah 18, forget the past. Thinking about the future should bring you joy, not fear! Trust in the Lord and move forward knowing that whatever this year holds, God is greater and able to bring you through 2016 victoriously.
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope..” – Jeremiah 29:11
So this year, let us focus on seeking God and His will for our lives.
